Staple Removers

Removing staples from wooden fence posts is a common task during fence repairs, maintenance, or wire replacement. Doing it correctly minimizes damage to the posts and wires while ensuring safety and efficiency.

Using a purpose made tool will help you do the job more efficiently, quickly and more safely.

Here are a few tips

Work systematically: Start at one end of the fence line and move steadily to avoid missing staples.

Use leverage, not force: Excessive force can crack posts or bend staples, making removal harder.

Batch process: For large fences, remove all staples first, then address wire tensioning or replacement separately.

Preserve wire tension: If the wire is still under tension, secure it to an adjacent post with a temporary staple or tie to prevent it from springing loose.

Check for corrosion: Rusty staples are harder to remove and may indicate wire degradation, so inspect the wire closely.

Seasonal considerations: In wet conditions, wood may be softer, making staples easier to remove but posts more prone to damage. In dry conditions, hardwood posts may resist prying.

Fencing Gun Staples

Do you have a Degree in Stapleology? No? Then follow our simple Guide:

When choosing replacement staples for your Fencing Staple Gun there are a few things to consider:

What type of gun do you have? The majority of gas powered staplers take a staple of 3.10mm (3.15) width. Also popular are staplers that fire staples of 4.0mm width. They are not compatible. Choose either 4.0mm or 3.15mm width.

What length staple should you choose? We offer 3.15 in 25mm/33mm or 40mm lengths, and 4.0 in 40mm or 50mm lengths.

Your 4.0 Stapler requires expensive proprietary branded staples. No longer true. We offer 4.0 staples for Stockade, and, with our adaptors, for two other major branded 4.0 Staplers.

Cordless? Is there an alternative to Milwaukee? Yes. Consider our Freeman LD400 cordless staple gun. Popular the world over.

Post Staples

Simple, affordable, and secure for wooden posts.

The best way to fasten wire to a fence post depends on the type of wire, fence post material (wood, metal, or vinyl), and the intended purpose of the fence (e.g., livestock, security, or decoration).

For most standard fencing (e.g., barbed or woven wire on wooden posts), fence staples are the best option due to their simplicity, strength, and affordability.

For high-tension fences, ensure fastenings allow slight movement to avoid wire breakage

Hammer the staple over the wire into the post, ensuring it’s snug but not so tight that it damages the wire or restricts movement (especially for tensioned wires).
